NAPHTHYLAMINE
naphthylamine: translation
(= b-naphthylamine)
Potent carcinogen; used in production of aniline dyes, one of the first chemicals to be associated with a tumour (bladder cancer). The compound itself is not directly carcinogenic; a metabolite produced by hydroxylation (1-hydroxy-2-aminonaphthalene) is detoxified in the liver by conjugation with glucuronic acid, but reactivated by a glucuronidase in the bladder.
